How to use Tickly, and answers to common questions.
A completed task is removed automatically 30 days after it was completed, and this cannot be undone. Note down anything you might want later before marking it complete.
Getting started
The basic flow for getting going with Tickly.

Write your tasks
Type directly in the list. Start by getting whatever is on your mind out of your head and onto the screen.

Organise from the keyboard toolbar
While typing, use the toolbar above the keyboard: the pencil to edit, the up and down arrows to reorder, and the left and right arrows to change a task’s level.

Sort things with labels
Create labels that combine a colour and an icon, then attach them to tasks. Work, home, errands — whatever split fits your life.

Break big tasks into subtasks
For anything you cannot finish in one go, add subtasks under the parent. The hierarchy lines make the structure visible.

Star and switch views
Star the tasks that matter, then use the Starred view when you want only those in front of you.

Add due dates and notes
Add a due date, a note, a photo or a URL where it helps. Tasks with a due date can also be added to your device calendar.
Frequently asked questions
How do labels work?
Each label has a colour and an icon. Create a label, attach it to tasks, and the list becomes easy to scan by type. On the labels screen you can switch between a list and a chip view.
How do I add a subtask?
Add subtasks under a parent task and complete each one separately. You can also change a task’s level with the left and right arrows above the keyboard. Tasks can be nested four levels deep: one main task plus three subtask levels.
Are there limits on tasks or labels?
There is no limit on the total number of tasks or subtasks. Each label can contain up to 500 main tasks.
How do I search for a task?
Use the search button at the top right to search across task titles and notes by keyword.
Can I hide completed tasks?
Turn on “Hide Completed” in Settings and finished tasks will no longer appear in the active list.
The text is too small or too large
Change it under “Text Size” in Settings, which offers Small, Default and Large. Theme and language are on the same screen.
How do widgets work?
Add a Tickly widget in any size available on your device to view tasks on the Home Screen. Tapping the add button opens Tickly so you can add a new task in the app.
What can I do on Apple Watch?
You can view tasks, mark them complete and filter them by label. Tasks cannot be added or edited directly on Apple Watch.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Adding, editing, completing and reordering all work without a connection, and your data stays on the device.
Are due-date notifications and calendar integration available?
Tickly does not send its own due-date notifications. You can manually add a task to your device calendar even when it has no due date. Tasks are never added to the calendar automatically.
How do I attach a photo?
Choose a photo from your device library or take a new one with the camera and attach it to a task. Your device may request photo or camera access when you use these options.
Where is my data stored, and can I back it up?
Data is stored only on your device. There is no account, cloud sync or data export feature. Deleting the app or its data cannot be undone, so you are responsible for keeping anything you need.
My completed tasks disappeared
Tasks are deleted automatically 30 days after completion. This is by design and deleted tasks cannot be restored.
